Live to be 100!

I want to live to be 100 because I love this life and I am far from finished.

With the passage of each year, new paths open up for me to serve as a channel of God’s love, and for making a difference in this world.

While I understand that we can never know for certain what God has in store for us, I also know that so much of our health and wellbeing is within our hands. As I see it, sharpening my focus on being strong and healthy for the final leg of my journey is an act of love.

It’s an act of love for my family who want me around and who don’t need to be burdened with any sort of worry or frustration as to whether I am taking care of myself as I should. It’s an act of love for my beloved circle of friends who count on me. It’s an act of love for the company that I have helped to shepherd for so many years and for all of the associates who I hold dear to my heart. Possibly most importantly, taking care of myself is an act of love for God and for His marvelous creation that I am blessed with the opportunity to serve every single day.

This means that I make healthy food choices. I’ve made a commitment to a regular exercise regimen. I go to the doctor for all regularly scheduled checkups, and I heed my doctors’ advice. I fully accept and acknowledge that my health will be challenged in the years to come, but I am not going to define myself by whatever condition might enter the picture.

After being diagnosed with AV blockage recently, I got a pacemaker. And I am faithful to do all of the follow-up involved with this.

I have been put on this Earth for a reason, and as I happily grow older (78 at last count!) I am committed to serving as a faithful steward of this marvelous gift of life. I am frequently reminded of Luke 12:48: “From whom much has been given, much will be expected.”

I expect to be a healthy, happy and vital contributor to this life for many years to come. I believe that’s what God has in store for me because that’s what I’ve asked of Him. As St. Paul wrote in his letter to the Philippians 4:8: “…in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

I have made my request for a long life and continued vitality known to God!

Dear friends, the fact that you are a member of this community is a clear sign that you have big dreams and big plans for your life. You know that a well-functioning mind and body is needed to fuel those dreams, so please, every chance you get, make choices that will help to keep both your mind and your body in top working condition.
